Is Your Business Ready to Grow? Don’t Just Guess!

Take Our G.E.S.S. Assessment & Grow the Right Way

As a business owner, your goal is likely to grow your business. But, how do you know when you’re truly ready to take the leap to the next stage in your growth journey?

Before putting a growth strategy in place, it’s essential to ensure that your company can handle rapid growth—from current systems and processes to staff readiness and capacity.

So, how do you measure growth readiness?

It’s a question we get asked a lot, which is why we created Our Growth Effectiveness Success Score (G.E.S.S.) to help you understand where your business stands in terms of growth readiness.

Here’s everything you need to know about how this assessment can help you kickstart your growth journey.

Firstly, why is it important to know if your business is ready to grow?

You likely have a contingency plan for if things go wrong in your company. But being prepared for growth is just as important as being ready for when things don’t go to plan.

There’s nothing worse than having to play catch up with a business that’s growing faster than it can handle. It’s exhausting, unsustainable, and can have lasting negative effects on your business in its worst-case scenarios.

Overestimating your readiness for growth can lead to unsatisfied customers, overworked employees, inefficient processes, and messy marketing strategies.

It’s a good idea to regularly review your current performance and processes to identify the most likely opportunities for growth, which is exactly where the G.E.S.S. assessment comes in.

What is Our G.E.S.S framework?

Our G.E.S.S. framework is a short online questionnaire that evaluates your business’s growth journey and its readiness for further growth.

At Insights Lab, we know that sustainable growth is only possible on solid foundations. Which is why we test growth readiness by looking at the five core pillars that form your foundations, including:

  1. Objectives: where do you want to get to?
    1. Define your objectives and set goals for the next stage of your journey.
    2. Relay objectives to team members and key stakeholders.
  2. Analytics: how are you tracking your growth journey?
    1. Implement the right analytical and reporting tools and capabilities.
    2. Learn how to achieve business goals based on those capabilities.
  3. Strategy Planning: what needs to be optimized to reach your growth objectives?
    1. Uncover and understand the potential opportunities that could help you achieve your goals.
  4. Tactics: what will get you there faster and more efficiently?
    1. Measure and analyze how effective the current channels that you’re using are.
    2. Identify possible new channels.
  5. Learning: which successes to celebrate and how to gear up for the next leg of your journey.
    1. Learn from experiments and past experiences (including both failures and successes).

Our G.E.S.S. framework is not a strategy on its own but rather a growth grader that unveils opportunities or sheds light on areas that need improving. Think of it as an opportunity to know ahead of time how well your next growth effort will work and ways to make them even more effective.

What does the G.E.S.S. score really mean?

Taking the G.E.S.S. assessment helps you identify the critical areas in your business that need improvement. It also enables you to determine what essential information you need to acquire to achieve growth and meet your business objectives.

By the end of the questionnaire, you’ll get a score that indicates how ready you are for growth. Say, for example, you get a score of 25%. This score indicates that your current growth strategy is likely to be 25% effective.

Let’s break down what that means:

Before growing your business, you want to form a solid foundation. This foundation is made up of the five key pillars that we mentioned earlier. If these foundations are not 100% rock solid, then the opportunity to build on that foundation (think of it like adding a new storey or level to a building) will not be as effective or long-lasting as it should be.

As you expand and grow your business, the aim is to find a repeatable and scalable business model to ensure sustainable growth. But, if your foundation isn’t strong enough, it will not support a sustainable growth model.

The G.E.S.S. score tells you how strong your foundations are and indicates where you’re lacking.

After getting your score, what happens next?

After completing the quiz, we’d love to jump onto a call with you to discuss the results and dive a bit deeper into your growth opportunities.

If you’re not quite ready for that step, we’ll happily send through 50 deep dive questions and pointers for you to consider and analyze in your own time.
